New flax market report: why are prices going lower?

April 10, 2009 (Saskatoon, SK) The latest report from the SaskFlax Market Support Program is now available online, and this month, analysts are explaining why flax prices are trending lower.

“Some of the decline in current flax values can be attributed to a rising Canadian dollar,” said Larry Weber of Weber Commodities, a Saskatoon-based market analysis company that is working with the Saskatchewan Flax Development Commission on the program. “The market is in a definitive doldrums period where sellers are missing in action and buyers are also nowhere to be seen. At these pricing levels, it becomes a waiting game to see who will blink first.”

SaskFlax announced the Market Support Program in January. Over the next year, reports will be available on the SaskFlax website each month with timely information on supply, demand, and world markets. Already posted are two key reports, three audio podcasts, and two monthly summaries.

Anyone can access the SaskFlax Market Support Program by going to the “Marketing” section on the SaskFlax website and looking in the "Monthly Reports" section. Users who wish to be notified when a new report is posted can enter their email address on the SaskFlax website.
